Welcome to Kawana Powerblades – What to Expect

New to Powerblades? Start Here

This page is designed to give you all the key info you need to get started with us on the water. From what to bring to how the sport works, we’ve got you covered.

Before you attend a come-try day, be sure to register for a dragon pass which entitles you to your first 4 sessions completely free within a 28-day period. We also offer a 10% discount on fees for two adults living in the same household should you choose to join.

To make things even easier, we’ve put together a New Paddler Information Pack—you’ll find it at the bottom of the page. It includes everything you need to know as you start out.

What to Bring

When you come along for your first session, wear comfortable clothes and footwear that you don’t mind getting wet. Be sure to bring:

  • Non slip shoes that you don't mind getting wet

  • Gym style clothing (and a change of clothes is optional if you are joining us for coffee post training)

  • A towel

  • A water bottle

  • A cap or hat

  • Sunscreen & Mosquito Repellant

Also, make sure to bring along a signed Medical Disclosure Form which you can download below.

We’ll provide you with a paddle. Most importantly—come ready to have fun!

All Fitness Levels Welcome

No matter your starting point, there’s a seat for you.

You don’t need to be super fit—just have reasonable mobility. We’ll teach you the basics first, then guide you as you grow in technique and confidence. Even elite athletes need coaching when they start!

Our paddlers come in all shapes, sizes, and ages. Everyone starts somewhere, and our supportive team environment makes learning fun and achievable.

Trained and Accredited Coaches

We take safety and skill development seriously. Our club is led by fully accredited coaches and experienced helms, all regularly assessed for competency.

Your safety is our top priority—and our commitment to excellence ensures you’re in capable hands.

Water Safety

As a water-based sport, safety is paramount. You’ll need to confirm you can swim 100m. If not, no worries—you’ll simply wear a PFD.

We run capsize drills (no, we won’t flip the boat!) and always operate with a buddy system. You’ll never be alone on or off the water.

Compete or Just Enjoy

Whether you're here for fun, fitness, or to chase national titles—there’s something for everyone.

We welcome social paddlers as well as those aiming for competitive events at the State, National, or International level. There’s also the chance to paddle in cultural festivals and regattas in stunning locations. Do as much or as little as you like—it’s your journey.

Join the Action

We regularly compete in local regattas on Lake Kawana and nearby venues. These events are a fantastic way to bond with the team, gain experience, and have a blast on race day.

When you register for a regatta, we guarantee you’ll be on the water—paddling with your teammates and cheered on all the way!
